Minnesota Secretary of State

For questions regarding Nonprofit Corporations and Forms such as Articles of Incorporation, filing fees, change of name and address, annual nonprofit corporate filing, registered agents, certificate of assumed name, reinstatement after a nonprofit corporation has been statutorily dissolved, international student exchange organizations registration and dissolving a nonprofit corporation.

Internal Revenue Service 

For questions regarding Federal Tax Information such as federal tax forms and instructions, exempt organization hotline, searching Publication 78 for Exempt Organizations, lifecycle of a nonprofit organization, status of any changes to the IRS Form 990, Employer Identification Number "EIN" Form SS-4 and application for Recognition of exempt Status (Form 1023).

The Center’s mission is to provide all Minnesota students the opportunity to develop and integrate their artistic and academic abilities to their highest potential.

Southeast Minnesota Arts Council 

The Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council, Inc., a non-profit organization designated by the Minnesota State Legislature and governed by a volunteer board with representatives from each of the eleven counties in its region, exists to encourage, promote, and assist regional arts development by granting funds to non-profit arts organizations, individual artists, and educational institutions, providing information/access to the funds through outreach, advocacy, mentoring, and technical assistance, evaluating/assessing the effectiveness of funded grants and seeking to ensure a fair distribution of funds.SEMAC includes the counties of Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha, and Winona.

The Alliance provides answers to frequently asked questions on board development, strategic planning, fundraising, financial management, risk management and credit card acceptance.

Center for Nonprofit Management (Minneapolis) 

The Center offers seminars, training programs and consultation on subjects such as board governance, fundraising, and a variety of management topics.

Fieldstone Alliance  (St.Paul) 

Fieldstone Alliance offers consulting, publishing training, network development, demonstration projects and capacity building for nonprofits and their communities.

Free Management Library 

The Free Management Library, operated by Authenticity Consulting, is an online management library with comprehensive resources and links to materials on leadership and management of organizations. Topics include the best practices to start, develop, operate, evaluate and resolve problems in nonprofit organizations.

MAP for Nonprofits Management Assistance Program (St. Paul)

MAP is a management support organization for nonprofits. Services include technical assistance, board training, accounting assistance, financial management, nonprofit start-up advice and workshops. MAP also offers a variety of e-mail newsletters and discussion groups for staff and volunteers.

Minnesota Council of Nonprofits 

MCN works to inform, promote, connect and strengthen individual nonprofits and the nonprofit sector and is the statewide association of more than 1050 member nonprofit organizations. MCN offers educational opportunities for nonprofit issues through its website, resource publications, workshops and events.

Minnesota Council on Foundations 

MCF is a membership organization of family, private, community and other public or corporate foundations. Its website has resources for grantmakers and grantseekers. MCF has developed a set of Principles for Minnesota Grantmakers and guides for foundations to implement these principles.

Nonprofits Assistance Fund  (Minneapolis) 

The Nonprofits Assistance Fund offers financial management assistance workshops and financial management assistance to increase the financial strength and stability of nonprofit organizations in Minnesota.

Springboard for the Arts 

Springboard provides consulting services for artists and arts organizations. Springboard periodically holds seminars and workshops covering subjects such as grant writing, starting a nonprofit organization, financial management and fundraising. It also has a loan program for artists.

Bush Foundation

The Bush Foundation website provides tools to help the foundation better connect with its partners and the communities they serve, including a blog where others can join the discussion, Stories about the work of their partners and fellows, Timely updates about news, opportunities, events, resources and media coverage plus new ways to interact with the Foundation via Twitter, Facebook and RSS.

American Institute of Philanthropy  (Chicago) 

The American Institute of Philanthropy is a charity watchdog service that evaluates charities. This information is available in its tri-annual publication, Charity Rating Guide, which is included in the Charity Watchdog Report.

Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance

The BBB Wise Giving Alliance publishes a quarterly Wise Giving Guide. It also prepares reports on charitable organizations, which can be accessed through its website, that assesses a charity's compliance with standards (the Standards for Charitable Accountability) set by the BBB Wise Giving Alliance.

Charities Review Council

The Charities Review Council is a Minnesota organization that evaluates charitable appeals against established standards, provides information on charities to donors and monitors enforcement of charities laws.

Charity Navigator 

Charity Navigator provides an analysis and rating of the financial health of more than 3,900 of America's largest charities.

GuideStar 

GuideStar is a searchable Internet database developed by Philanthropic Research, Inc. IRS Form 990 returns that charities have filed with the IRS are avai8lable for review at the GuideStar website.

National Center for Charitable Statistics 

The National Center for Charitable Statistics is a national repository of data on the nonprofit sector in the United States. It is a project of the Urban Institute.
